Vinery Lofts – 2943 N Lincoln (26 Units)
Vinery Lofts is a rare two-part development where one half is a renovation of an older building and the other half is new construction made to mirror the existing structure. The result is a one-of-a-kind residential complex connected by steel outdoor stairways and decks.
In the early 1900s, a commercial winery was built on the land where Vinery Lofts now stands. In the early 1990s, the sturdy all-brick edifice was converted into 14 loft-style condominiums, with a parking garage retrofitted into the building’s existing basement. Across from the lofts, developers were also hard at work creating a duplicate structure of steel, pre-cast concrete, and masonry that would hold 12 more multi-level residential units. While the two sections of Vinery Lofts look identical on the face, a closer look inside reveals very different living spaces.
The interiors of Vinery Lofts’ rehabbed units showcase the muted tones of aged masonry, whereas the new construction units have fresh redbrick walls that have not yet enjoyed the alleviating effects of time. Combining aspects of loft and condo design, some rooms have tall ceilings while others are of a regular 8-foot height. Even with finished ceilings, the ductwork has been left exposed to give the allusion of a loft conversion. Most kitchens have modern upgrades and the finishes are tasteful and masterfully executed. Floor plans vary within the development, going up to a 3-bed, 2.5-bath layout with its own rooftop deck.
Vinery Lofts may be right on Lincoln Avenue in the active neighborhood of Lakeview, but many of its units are set back from the street, tucked within the complex for maximum sound protection and privacy. Of course, there are plenty of nearby dining options within walking distance of the lofts, including several bar & grills with great menus and drink selections. A bunch of businesses and shops sprinkle the area around Vinery Lofts, or a short ride on the Lincoln Avenue bus is a convenient way to shoot down to Lincoln Park’s boutiques and stores.
