Skytech Lofts – 1501 W Madison (147 Units)
Oftentimes lofts are thought of as reinventions of rundown old industrial buildings and warehouses. But not all lofts are conversions. The Skytech Lofts are a new construction development completed in 2002. The project was done by West Madison Developers, who tout their employment of twenty-first century technology in the lofts’ construction and design.
Skytech Lofts were built with a reinforced steel structure and an all-brick exterior (no split-block). The eight-story building houses 147 units, plus garage parking. There is a trash chute on every level and a special loading dock to make moving in a breeze. The building is equipped with passenger and freight elevators (another plus when moving a household of furniture into the place). The mail room is situated in the lobby where a doorman is on-hand to assist visitors and resident needs. The security system at Skytech Lofts includes telephone entry.
Skytech lofts units are modern and stylish with huge windows and open layouts. The main areas feature hardwood floors and bedrooms typically have wall-to-wall carpeting. Kitchens are generally outfitted with stainless steel or black appliances and granite counters and breakfast bars. Track lighting downplays the height of the extra-tall ceilings, which extend high above the kitchen cabinets. Some units have luxury master suites with walk-in closets, double-sink vanities, and separate tubs and showers in the bathrooms. Gas fireplaces and in-unit washer/dryers are also nice amenities found within the walls of Skytech Lofts.
Central AC and heating are standard throughout Skytech Lofts. Floor plans usually offer anywhere from 900 to 2,000 square feet, although there is a duplex penthouse with as much as 4,600 square feet and its own private rooftop terrace. The other lofts have private balconies off the living room for grilling and enjoying the West Loop view. For the most part, Skytech Lofts are one- and two-bedroom residences.
