Churchill Row – 2111 W. Churchill (39 Units)

Churchill Row

Touted as Bucktown’s last true loft development, Churchill Row was converted from one of the neighborhood’s few remaining industrial parcels. Originally a manufacturing site for Churchill Cabinet, the three-story building at 2111 W. Churchill was rehabbed into 39 luxury loft units during the condo boom of the last decade. The renovated residential property houses single-level layouts and duplex floor plans, ranging in size from 800 square feet to over 1,800 square feet.

As is common in the Bucktown area, the units at Churchill Row are timber lofts. The lofts boast beautiful plank ceilings with timber beams and upright structural wood posts. Large factory-style windows fill the walls and flood interior spaces with sunlight. Churchill Row lofts feature the usual exposed brick and ductwork, plus hardwood floors and track lighting. Also a telltale sign of loft living are the partial bedroom walls (which a majority of the units have). Kitchens are decked with granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, and various cabinet designs. There is also laundry in the individual residences and storage available in the building.

Churchill Row offers one and two bedroom units. A number of the floor plans have a second level for the bedrooms or lofted office. Interior finishes differ between units, but most embrace a contemporary feel. Some owners splurged for top-of-the-line appointments, while others chose more modest style. Metal balconies hang off the outside of the edifice, a typical addition to converted loft buildings. Tall leafy trees provide privacy from the street and nearby neighbors. Landscaped grounds extend to the old elevated rail bridge that runs behind the development.

The Churchill Row complex also includes 22 new construction townhouses, built on an adjacent lot. The area is loaded with trendy Bucktown dining spots, boutique shops, coffee houses and other popular hangouts. There is indoor parking in Churchill Row and access to I-90/94 to the east. Public transportation is a short hike south to the Damen Blue Line stop, just past North Avenue.
